Top Ten Tuesday– Popular Authors I haven’t read.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at The Broke and Bookish. Each week the bloggers at The Broke and The Bookish put out a topic, and discuss their top ten options for said topic. This week it’s all about popular authors you HAVEN’T read. This should be a fun one to poke around other blogs and see who hasn’t read what.

clouds10 Mrs Stephenie Meyer Granted, I’m not certain how popular her stories are compared to the movies are at this point, but I haven’t read anything by her. I know I should at least try to give her work a chance, but I really can’t. I got halfway through the first Twilight and couldn’t handle it.

clouds09 Ms. J.D. Robb I have read books under her other pen name of Nora Roberts, but I haven’t read anything written by her Robb alter-ego. I’ve been told to read her stuff, and one day—one day I will.

clouds08 Mr. James Patterson Probably one of the most prolific authors of our time, and specializing in crime/mystery/suspense books–you would think that a crime dork like me would have read at least one of his books. Nope. No particular reason I just haven’t.

clouds07 Ms. Veronica Roth I have Divergent sitting in my TBR list. I want to see the movie. I haven’t read the books. I just keep getting distracted by other books/authors. It’s probably a terrible thing.

clouds06 Ms. Jane Austen They’re called classics for a reason right? I just haven’t read any of Jane Austen’s work, and I feel really guilty admitting that because I feel like I’m committing some sort of literary sin. I can’t count the times people give me the side eye when I say I haven’t read any.

clouds05 Ms. Tahereh Mafi I see her books on the shelf, and I pet them, pick them up, flip through them and put them back. I’m not sure why I do this. But eventually I’ll take one home and read it.

clouds04 Ms. Suzanne Collins This is another author that I just kind of slink by their books when I’m in a store. There’s no glaring reason as to why I haven’t read her works–I just haven’t.

clouds03 Mr. Rick Riordan Again, these books appeal to me, I just haven’t read them. I have watched the movies. Again, this probably makes me a horrible person.

clouds02 Ms. E.L. James I’m not certain if she’s popular due to the sensational aspect of her series–or the mad cult cum world clamoring for her books. I haven’t read her, and I won’t read her. Her series, while one of the first to push erotica and the BDSM lifestyle to the forefront of everyone’s attention..she.did.it.wrong. I will not support an author who doesn’t research the culture she’s writing about, and creates unsafe fantasies for people to play out. Safe, sane, consensual please.

clouds01 Ms. Marissa Meyer Oh man do I have so much guilt here. I have all of the books lined up on my shelf, she’s a local author, she’s come to writing events that my writing group has put on. I’ve spoken with her several times, and I still haven’t read her books. I’m going to fix that. Really I am. Once I take some things back to the library, I’m going to have a date with a chair and Cinder.

So those are my Top Ten Popular Authors that I haven’t read. Who are some authors that everyone’s raving about but you haven’t read yet? Have you read any of the authors on my list? Suggest a book to me. Ps: John Green was ALMOST on this list. But I buckled down and read The Fault in Our Stars. If you’ve done a Top Ten Post, go ahead and link it in the comments below.

  1. Veronica Roth is amazing! I love Austen, but truth be told, her books are a bit hard to read, so I feel ya there. Marissa Meyer made my list too, and I should have put Tehereh Mafi on mine. I have one of hers on my kindle that I haven’t gotten to yet. So many authors, so little time. *Sigh* 😀

  2. oh gosh.. you have soo many good authors on this list! Roth, Mafi, Collins ( try The Host , you may like that a lot more ) and Meyer … what great books!! I hope you get to try them out soon! thanks for stopping by my STS . New Bloglovin follower ! ~Katie @ Inkk Reviews

  3. Oooh, so many on here that I could remark on… but I haven’t read enough of your blog yet to really know whether your tastes are similar to mine or not! Suffice it to say that there are a few on here I think you could skip and watch the movie. Also I feel like I’m totally going around doing public services today by sharing this link with everyone who put E.L. James on their list. You’re welcome (warning: parts of it have bad language and graphic descriptions, but hey, so does the book).

    Great list!

  4. Oh, don’t feel too guilty about never having read Jane Austen… honestly, she would have made my list if I hadn’t read her just last year! I can’t recommend Marissa Meyer and Suzanne Collins enough! I don’t think you’d regret your reading experience with either of these authors. Thanks for stopping by earlier!
