Top ten things on my (bookish) bucket list! (TTT)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at The Broke and Bookish. Each week the bloggers at The Broke and The Bookish put out a topic, and discuss their top ten options for said topic. This week it’s all about the top ten things on your bookish bucket list.

This is possibly an impossible task, but I want to record all of the books I’ve read using Goodreads. I want to include books that I read growing up, and stuff that I read pre-site. I’ve started this process and I’m currently archiving the manga/manwha I’ve read. It’s daunting and I probably should have started doing this sooner, and only taking it one shelf at a time. I just think it would be really fun to see how much I’ve really read. I like numbers, and I like being organized, and Goodreads is a definite time-suck for me. I could spend hours on there cataloging books and searching for books. I’m going to devote a lot of time this summer to this process, especially once I’ve build up a log of scheduled blog posts. I really hope I’m not alone in my obsession with the Goodreads site. Do you catalog books that you’ve read in the past before you joined the site, or do you just update current reads?

I want to read all of the banned books. I have this thing that when someone tells me I can’t read/listen to something I have to do it. The Banned Book list is something that taunts me, and I really want to read everything on it. I’m against censorship on so many levels and to suspend the printed word is something inconceivable to me. I have the belief that knowledge is neither good nor bad, it’s what we do with that knowledge, and so to deny the chance for people to read something that opens their mind to new possibilities is ridiculous. I’ve read some of the books, but I’m thinking of turning it into a blog feature, maybe committing myself to reading at least one a month and blogging about it.

I want to ‘walk in a character’s shoes.’ There have been a few books that have spoken to me, and their setting as much of a character as the narrator and supporting cast, and I think it would be so much fun to take the book and live in their shoes. Go the places that are mentioned in the book, eat at the restaurants, find the dive bars, go shopping where they did. I want to immerse myself in their world and experience things as they did.

I want to read more and judge less. Meaning I want to pick up books that I wouldn’t normally and read them for reading’s enjoyment. I want to try to cast off the stereotypes/hype and just read something to read the printed word. I’ve skipped over books because people have hyped them up, or put something back just because I felt the book wouldn’t suit me. I’ve started to do this a little bit, and I’ve come to find some books that I cannot live without. I want to open my horizons a bit more and really challenge myself to read outside of my comfort zone.

clouds06
I want to write a book. I’ve started many projects and have completed short pieces for anthologies or friends, but I want to write a book. I want to go through the submission process and get it out there.

clouds05
I need to be in my own space to do this, but I want to create the ultimate reading space. Carve out a little corner with shelves and all of my books on display with comfy seating and pillows everywhere. My own little private place to hide away and get lost in other worlds.

clouds04
Expand my blog and my blogging audience. I want to get more people to read and interact with. I want to make this blog succeed and reach lots of people. I like talking to people about books and I want to push this blog and make it grow as large as I can make it.

clouds03
I want to get my TBR list down to a manageable length. Totally laughable I know, but I dream of the day when I only have a couple books on there. Right now it’s overwhelming and crushing me. So, I’d really like to get it down to a normal amount. Though, who really knows what a normal amount of books is.

clouds02
Share reading with others. I want to get involved or start a program locally where people can read to each other. I know our library has a program where young kids can read to dogs, but I think it would be so neat to read to adults in a hospital setting, or kids after school. I love to read and I know not everyone gets the opportunity to. Getting involved in a literacy program/book sharing program would be something that I want to get into.

Start a book club! I really want to do this. I haven’t seen any around me locally, and it would be so much fun. I’m active in groups on Goodreads, but to actually physically meet with people and flail about books…that would be so incredible. Have any of you started/participated in a book club? I’m really going to start looking into doing this. I want to get like minded people together and discover more books.

  1. Read more – judge less. That’s something I aim to do too. Because I want to expand my horizons and be more open minded regarding genres I’m not normally that in love with.

Best of luck writing your own book and starting a book club! I’ve been a part of a few bookclubs. Not anymore since I moved but am looking into joining another one. It’s fun to get together just for the purpose of talking books. Ones I’ve been in the past have only really been about books for the first little bit and then conversation just evolved into all sorts of offtopic fun – but very enjoyable. Definitely recommend it.

    • It’s something that I’ve struggled with, and when I’ve gone back and read something that I swore wouldn’t read, I really enjoyed it a lot.

Thanks. πŸ™‚ I’ll get the book finished one day. I just think it would be neat to have something in print and see it all over the blogosphere. I’m really thinking about getting a group together. It would be so much fun.

Thank you for stopping by, have a great week!

    • That is such a cool concept! Given the chance I’d probably try something similar to that–so neat. πŸ™‚ I love getting lost in books, so getting lost in the real life setting would be so fantastic.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you have a great week. πŸ™‚

  2. Ooh, I love your list. Especially, the ‘read more and judge less.’ I need to do that too, get out of my comfort zone and cast off stereotypes! The ultimate reading space sounds amazing too, I’d like mine to have an endless supply of coffee. πŸ™‚

    • It’s really hard to do. I kind of gave YA novels the hard side eye for the longest time, and then I picked one up and fell in love. It’s a slippery slope though, it’s pretty addicting. Yes! An endless supply of coffee or tea.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week. πŸ™‚

  3. I would really really love to start a book club too. I didn’t even think of that when I made my list and Now I am wishing I did.

We have a small community and it’s kinda hard finding enough people with similar tastes in books.

    Great list…

    My TTT

    • I wouldn’t even know where to start. There are a couple that meet near me, but it’s one thing to go into something not knowing anyone, and another to start something? If that makes sense.

Thanks for stopping by. πŸ™‚ I hope you have a great week.

      • Yeah – I know exactly what you mean. which is why I haven’t started mine yet. All these big steps that you just don’t want to take by yourself.

Good luck with the book club!
And have a great week too!!

  4. Great list! I hope you can form a book club. I have tried a few times, but it has never really worked. My mom is in one that she has done for 6 years and I am super jealous! I need to get my TBR down to a manageable length, but I know I won’t, I like too many genres!

    • I’ll give it a shot, maybe sometime this summer. The TBR list is the bane of my existence. My problem is I keep adding book recs from blogs and then buying books that aren’t on my list.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you have a great week. πŸ™‚

  5. This is a very comprehensive list! I don’t have aspirations to be an author, but I do admire everyone that does. My TBR list will never be manageable (if I go by Goodreads), but I deal with that by making a ‘reading’ goal for myself, month by month. I would love to be in a book club too!

    Great list!

    • Goodreads is terrible for my TBR list. I keep seeing friends crop up with great books, and I belong to a few groups, so that doesn’t help it either. But one day I’ll get it down to like 20 or something. (I hope.)

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you have a great week! πŸ™‚

    • It is something that I’m working on. For some reason I have no issues picking up a book someone tells me not to read–but when I’ve got ten people all telling me to read something, I assume that it’s a horrible book. The ones I’ve picked up I’ve been blown away by, so I suppose I really should work on silencing my inner critic.

thank you for stopping by. πŸ˜‰ Have a great week.

  6. I am totally with you on #3! Love the idea of #5 and totally agree with #8, though on my list it’s specifically follow that path in 13 little blue envelopes! =) Thanks for stopping by my blog and great goals!

  7. I’ve been seeing that lots of people would like to start a book club today. πŸ™‚ I think it would be pretty easy as there are so many bloggers in the blogosphere! Great list πŸ™‚

    • There are a lot of us that want to do it. I haven’t come across many bloggers in my neck of the woods. I want to do one though, I might check through the library and see about getting one started. πŸ™‚

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a great week. πŸ™‚

  8. These are great! I agree with most of these- especially #10! I keep saying I will add them all, but I know I will forget some, and I am not sure how I’d rate them. And a manageable TBR list would be the ultimate dream. I think I have more than 450 on mine right now!

    • I think it would be a lot of fun. It’s a lot of work but I think in the long run it would make me really happy. My problem is tracking down all the R.L. Stine I read and making sure I put it in the right spot. πŸ™‚ Oh man, I haven’t looked at my TBR list on Goodreads in a while. I’m a little scared.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a great week.

    • Oh the Want to Read feature is almost as bad for me as the ‘one-click’ option on Amazon. It does help to weed out certain things though, because I’ll go back and look and realize that maybe I don’t really want to read this book I was drawn in by the cover (or something like that).

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a great week. πŸ™‚

  9. Wow, #9! That wouldn’t have occurred to me, but I’m in complete agreement with you on reading all the banned books and the reasoning behind it. Actually, this entire list of yours is very thoughtful and well done!! Thanks for stopping by earlier!

    • The more I think about it, the more I’m going to poke at my idea of turning it into a blog feature for myself. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while. πŸ™‚ Thank you so much!

      Have a great week.
