Book Feature: The Hellhound Handbook by Rue Volley.

The Hellhound Handbook
This is the FOURTH book in the Hellhound Series.
This book contains TWO origin stories.

“The Long Ride to Hell”
Long ago, in a time of War, a great man ruled with an iron fist, that of Vlad the Impaler. His armies vast and his lands growing but it was not at his own hand, it was led by Dorin, The Red Dragon.
Dorin served Castle Bran and his Lord with an unwavering loyalty. His strength absolute and his armor impenetrable, except for one thing, his forbidden love for Vlad.
With war subsiding and a bright future of peace on the horizon, Lady Illona is sent to Castle Bran to bind their nation’s houses as one. As a wedding looms, Dorin finds that his love cannot be contained and it sets a series of events into motion that will seal his fate and that of the legend of Dracula, forever.

“Moriah”
Long before man existed, other beings did, that of the angels of Moriah.
Moriah was a beautiful planet on the outskirts of the Andromeda system and if it was not for war, it would have been a true heaven.
As with all things, every being fights for survival and the angels of Moriah had done just that for all of 200 years. Led by Elohim and that of El, their army of the Helios Guard defended the planets greatest resources, that of water and iron.
Once war ended they found themselves left without purpose. Elohim tries his best to ensure that the angels of Moriah will live forever, but in his desperation has he saved them, or has he doomed them all?

Every legend has a dark past…

Synopsis:
Forced to be a maid to her family, nursemaid to her birth-mother, and slave to her step-mother, the only high point in Drella’s life is a new job at the palace. She will get to meet the handsome Prince Abran. However, Drella is not expecting to be attracted to both the prince and his valet. The equally handsome Oshan invites Drella to enjoy a night of passion with both men…all three of them together. Can Drella put the messy relationship between her own four parents aside and accept the love offered by a prince and his valet?

Prince Abran is heir to the throne of Erotania. He loves his country and he loves his valet, Oshan. But his passionate relationship with the manservant cannot produce his own heir. In a culture where family groups consist of up to four bi-sexual adults and their offspring, it’s not much of a leap to bring a woman into their bed chamber. But what woman will be acceptable to his mother, attracted to both men, and willing to put up with his arrogance?

Oshan loves his master and knows he needs an heir. When Drella starts work in the palace, he can tell that Abran is attracted to the pretty maid. But Drella has her own challenges to face. Can Oshan and the man he loves discover Drella’s demons and help her fight them and can a prince, a valet and a maid defy the impossible and find their very own happily ever after?

This story is scorchingly hot, well told, and an all around amazing read. At it’s bare bones it’s a Cinderella retelling. BUT it’s so much more than that. Ms. Munro builds an amazing world, full of fantasy and allure, creating an interesting family dynamic as well as world view. The fantasy world is breathtaking and I really fell so in love with the story. The characters are amazing, and I’m so in love with Oshan. (Sadly, he’s taken). Abran is arrogant, alpha-male and a bundle of yum as well.

The relationships are a pivotal role in this story. What I like about this, is that all the three main characters share the same amount of bedroom time. What I mean by that is no one is left out, no one is cast off when it comes to another person in the trio. They’re all equal, and powerful with each other and together. The sex scenes in this novel nearly melted my kindle. Drella is a component of the relationship between Oshan and Abran–she’s not thrown in there, simply because the Royal Family needs an heir. I really like that. I like that she’s welcome with them, and the way that their relationship evolves and changes. The people of Erotania’s views on sex are interesting, and I think it works well for this story, adding to the plot and the re-telling of a fairy tale, rather than a device for more sexy times.

I do feel that it wrapped up a little too nicely with a bow on top, but it’s nice to have a happily ever after, and this is a story that I’ll come back to and read again, and recommend to people. This is a story I hadn’t realized I had been looking for, but I’m really glad I found. The messages of equality and love between partners is amazing. It’s a great story, and I feel like I keep gushing about it, but I can’t not gush. Check this out if you’re looking for a great fantasy erotica piece that’s well worth it.

Overall: pink5 Steamy, swoony re-telling of Cinderella this melts right off of the kindle app, and leaves the reader wanting for more.

The Summary:
Jade has worked as a Seductor in a secret organization for five years now. Her main job? To earn the trust of her targets and secure the object or information her company was hired to steal—by any means necessary. She’s damn good at it, too.

With five years left on her contract, she is handed an assignment that turns her world upside down.

Oliver Kirkham is the attractive, young CEO of Kirkham Industries, a weapons manufacturing company, and is currently in possession of some very important blueprints—blueprints that could change the way war, as we know it, works. He’s extremely focused and doesn’t have time to date, at least until he comes to the rescue of a shy but very alluring Jade Gibbs.

What happens when one night of passion turns into more? Will Jade allow her feelings for Oliver to get in the way of her mission? Or will she do what she was hired to do and secure the steal?

I’m torn with this book. It’s a great story with extremely strong, well voiced characters. But on the other hand it feels a little rushed and I’d really like to know more about Jade and the other Seductors. The author hints at relationships (both romantic in nature and platonic) between the various characters that work in this secret organization, but there’s not enough there to build a mental image of their relationships. I would have rated this higher if I could have gotten to know Jade and her backstory more.

However, I did enjoy this story. Jade is an amazing character–most of the time in this type of book the female character (main or supporting) is seen as a wilting flower, or damsel in distress just waiting for the hero to come in and sweep them off their feet. Jade has nothing of that, even while pretending to be something she’s not. Her interactions with Oliver were interesting, I liked how the ‘love/lust at first sight’ gave way to feelings, and compromised missions. [No further spoilers 😉 ] The character of Oliver was great too. An alpha male who went after someone that he wanted, but at the same time there’s tenderness and gentleness that I find isn’t in a lot of alpha-male characters. He and Jade are electric together and I found myself falling for them together.

The plot was decent, it worked with what the characters had set up, and worked well with the world. I enjoyed the ending. I won’t talk anymore about that, other than I really liked it and it left me wanting more. I want to know more about where the characters go from here.

Overall: pink3 few repetitive phrases, and a too mysterious heroine on the downside, but the story carries itself well and redeems itself slightly.

The Summary: Wunder’s life has been far from perfect, being part Zombie in a world devastated by the plague of the walking dead. Still, she knew there was something special awaiting her, someone out there who could change everything and she did find him. Pete is everything she dreamed of and more, as she discovers passion and fulfillment for the first time in her life.

Now her life turns into a journey of discoveries. Secrets from the past come full circle and her world is changed forever. In the coming chaos, can she keep her new found happiness and the man of her dreams?

The Review: I’ve been a fan of Wunder since I read the first chapter. I thought it was an interesting world, and something that could very well be expanded upon. The erotica was a different touch, but something that was well written and done properly. I read part 0.5 and wanted even more. I sat down right after I purchased Wunder #2, and read it and really had the series connect and click for me. Part two has a different pace than the other parts of the Wunder-verse, and I think it’s here that we really get to see the extent of A.R’s writing abilities. I’m a fan of her work, but Wunder #2 made me really love it even more.

There’s character development, and even more world expansion. I really love how Wunder has grown, and how she’s slowly starting to find her place. Pete gets a little lost in the shuffle, and his reaction is not only believable, but it’s done really well. This series was already atypical for the zombie genre, but what AR is doing, is creating something really substantial and frankly, something I really like. I want more, as the Wunder releases are short, Wunder #2 is a bit longer, but it still leaves me wanting for more, (which is why I can’t get into too much detail about it, as I don’t want to give anything away). I want more. And I want more Tank. Because everyone needs a Tank.

The SummaryWunder may have a normal life now…well, as normal as a freak of nature could have. Half zombie while her job is to hunt bloodthirsty creatures to protect the innocent. It’s the dreams that haunt her and they aren’t nightmares. Wunder dreams of a man, a man made just for her. Is he real, can he be the one she‘s yearned for?

Pete’s world is a lonely one as he wrestles with the reality of being part zombie. His hatred for the creatures that killed his parents drives him to patrol the streets and wipe them all out. His life would be stark, but for the dreams he’s been having; of a woman, so sensuous, so sexy. These alluring visions have become erotic and consuming. He feels as if he made her up to keep from going crazy. Is this life of hunting the walking dead, all there is? Or is she out there, waiting…just for him?

The Review: Plagued (haha see what I did there? Sorry, it won’t happen again) by dreams featuring a smokin’ hot mystery man, Wunder has to balance her day to day zombie hunting life and deal with her own demons of being half zombie–all the while thinking about her nightly escapades with tall dark and handsome.

This is a prequel of sorts to Wunder, which I’ve also reviewed and will link further down, and it goes deeper into Wunder’s history and her daily life. I liked getting to read more about Wunder’s team and more about her day to day life. We’re also given more of an introduction to Pete, who is Wunder’s love interest. Their chemistry is scorching hot, and well written. I can’t get enough of Wunder and the world that Ms. Von has built. I’m really looking forward to book two, or really anything that I can sink my teeth into. (Sorry.)

The Summary: Wunder isn’t your average girl, in fact, she isn’t even an average human. In a world once ravaged by Zombies, she was born amidst the chaos.

Where can a girl like her find the man of her delicious dreams? She has an idea and it leads her to the hottest new club in town, where she finds what’s been missing in her life.

Pete has his own secrets to tell, and when they come together, another story unfolds while the sparks fly.

The Review: First off this is a short story–extremely short. However, despite the length, there’s a lot going on. Wunder is a human/zombie hybrid, and in this post-zombie world it’s something that she keeps hidden. A tough as nails zombie hunter, who has an incredibly sensual side. Pete is tall dark and handsome and hiding something from Wunder and the world. When the two come together sparks fly and the chemistry is off the charts.

I really enjoyed this short, and was pleasantly surprised by it. I went way out of my comfort zone, both with zombies, and erotica and the blending of the two. Don’t think that this is a mash up of Romero’s zombies getting together. It’s not. There’s a lot to this story and it packs a punch. I’m really looking forward to seeing where Wunder goes next, and more of her interactions with Pete.
