It’s that time again, for the weekly top ten countdown. This week’s topic is 2015 releases you meant to read, but didn’t get to. As always, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Broke and Bookish

kasa_zpsdf6a064aThor: Goddess of Thunder. I originally had picked up issues of this, and didn’t get around to reading them. Then I just decided to wait for the trade, and I still haven’t read it.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aSaga. Again, this is one that’s still sitting my tbr pile, and it’s killing me because I’ve heard so many great things about it.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aFinder’s Keepers by Stephen King.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aRed Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I haven’t purchased this yet, even though I pass it all the time and stare at it longingly. I’ve heard good things about this and the cover just is beautiful.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aEverything Everything by Nicole Yoon. Everyone’s read this–everyone but me, and I’m having serious feels about that.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aI Was Here by Gayle Forman. I bought this, and kept intending to read it but never got around to it. My mom actually snagged it from me, read it and enjoyed it. I’m hoping to get to it soon.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aEvery Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone. My twitter/blog feed exploded with this book, and I got it in a package because I put it on my TBR list. I haven’t read it yet and it’s killing me because everyone seems to really enjoy it.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aWinner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski. I really liked Winner’s Curse and was really excited to get my hands on the sequel, but I just didn’t get a chance.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aSix of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. This is another book that exploded all of my social media. I need to get my hands on it.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aWinter by Marissa Meyer. I’m so far behind on this series that I haven’t even thought about reading the most recent book.

That is my list for this week. You’re more than welcome to leave your link in a comment if you’ve done a Top Ten Tuesday post this week. What books did you mean to read in 2015 but didn’t get a chance to get to?

Top Ten Tuesday!

It’s that time again, for the weekly top ten countdown. This week’s topic is top ten resolutions for 2016 (be it bookish or otherwise). As always, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Broke and Bookish

pinkdots

kasa_zpsdf6a064a I resolve to finish the projects I start, and the ones that I have laying around that are “one day I’ll…” projects. I have a list of projects to get completed and I want to have it all checked off by the end of the year.

kasa_zpsdf6a064a To create and gift 12 creative/crafty gifts in 12 months to 12 different people. I really love crafting projects and I love giving gifts so I thought I would combine the two.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aTo properly update, upkeep and maintain this blog. I really enjoy blogging and the friends I’ve made–but as you can see I’ve let things slide, which really upsets me.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aFinish and publish (either through self publishing or a publishing house) my writing projects. Yes these are different from the projects mentioned above, and I need to get them done rather than just talking about it and thinking about it.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aRead more, judge less. I’ve missed out on some really amazing books because I judged the hype, or the author. I’m going to really work on that this year and read things that I want to read without judging them or others.

kasa_zpsdf6a064a To complete a 5k fun run each month.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aContinue on my current path to a healthier me.

kasa_zpsdf6a064a Set aside one day a week for self care where I unplug, avoid anything with a screen and just relax and unwind.

kasa_zpsdf6a064a To say no. I take on too many tasks, too many activities and I really struggled a lot last year getting burned out and not taking care of myself. I resolve to stop, think and really take into consideration if I can do something before saying yes.

kasa_zpsdf6a064aSurround myself with the people who help me be the best possible me I can be.

Those are my resolutions. Feel free to share yours in the comments and link to your Top Ten Tuesday post!

Top Ten Tuesday! FREE FOR ALL!!

It’s that time again, for the weekly top ten countdown. This week’s topic is a ‘freebie’ week, meaning we can talk about whatever we want to. And since I’ve got to the comic book side of things, I’m going to talk about my top ten comics/graphic novels that I’m loving right now. Most of these are DC verse with a couple others thrown in. As always, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Broke and Bookish

clouds10  Batman: Battle for the Cowl Tony S. Daniel, Fabian Nicieza Who has earned the right? Who thinks they deserve it? Robin? Nightwing? Jason Todd? Two-Face? Catwoman? Batgirl? Who will ultimately win the BATTLE FOR THE COWL?

One of the few Pre-52 volumes that I own and love, Battle for The Cowl is explosive, entertaining and really lays down some great Bat mythos and dynamics.

clouds09 23017989 Hawkeye Vs. Deadpool Gerry Duggan Matteo Lolli Once upon a time, champions emerged to fight the evil plaguing humanity. They fought for all that was good in the world. They were kind, generous and self-sacrificing. They were heroes. These are not those heroes.

I love this comic, and I’ve got a review of it coming soon. Working on a few things, but this is hysterically funny and it’s not really a VS in the true meaning of the word, but more of a team up.

clouds08 17737072 Nightwing: Death of the Family Kyle Higgins, Eddy Barrows, Andres Guinaldo, Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo Joker makes his horrifying return to Gotham City! But even for man who’s committed a lifetime of murder, he’s more dangerous than ever before. The Joker sets his twisted sights on the members of the Bat-Family and attacks them all where it hurts—and for Dick Grayson, that means going after the family he’s built up for the past year at Haly’s Circus!

I’ve got a whole review of the Nightwing graphic novels coming up, so I’m not going to get too much into my feelings about Nightwing here. I do however really love the Death of the Family arc and the Nightwing volume was my second favorite when it comes down to it. Beautiful art, great story line and it really helps define a the Dick Grayson/Nightwing character.

clouds10 Ms. Marvel
Kamala Khan is an ordinary girl from Jersey City — until she’s suddenly empowered with extraordinary gifts. But who truly is the new Ms. Marvel? Teenager? Muslim? Inhuman? Find out as she takes the Marvel Universe by storm! When Kamala discovers the dangers of her newfound powers, she unlocks a secret behind them, as well. Is Kamala ready to wield these immense new gifts? Or will the weight of the legacy before her be too much to bear? Kamala has no idea, either. But she’s comin’ for you, Jersey!

Featuring
Ms. Marvel because she is a Muslim character, a strong female lead, and a character that holds tight to her values and strong upbringing.

clouds09 Gangsta.
In the city of Ergastulum, a shady ville filled with made men and petty thieves, whores on the make and cops on the take, there are some deeds too dirty for even its jaded inhabitants to touch. Enter the “Handymen,” Nic and Worick, who take care of the jobs no one else will handle. Until the day when a cop they know on the force requests their help in taking down a new gang muscling in on the territory of a top Mafia family. It seems like business (and mayhem) as usual, but the Handymen are about to find that this job is a lot more than they bargained for.

Featuring Disabled main characters– one being deaf, the other missing an eye. The cast of this manga is racially diverse. There’s some really interesting themes also running through the entire series.

clouds08 Teeth
Rudy’s life is flipped upside-down when his family moves to a remote island in a last attempt to save his sick younger brother. With nothing to do but worry, Rudy sinks deeper and deeper into loneliness and lies awake at night listening to the screams of the ocean beneath his family’s rickety house.

Featuring Some deeper, seedier themes that are handled very well. A bisexual character.

pinkdots

clouds10 Kevin Hearne Author of the Iron Druid series. He’s an incredible author with an amazing talent for world shaping, creating characters that stick with you long after the book is finished, and dropping some of the best humor into books. He’s so talented and I’d love to just pick his brain and talk to him for a little while.

clouds09 Tamora Pierce. This woman was so influential in shaping what I read and my introduction to fantasy/high fantasy. I love her books, and I have started to collect them over the years. She’s got great strong, independent female lead characters who are good role models for young adult readers. Her world building is lush and descriptive and she’s so insanely talented.

clouds08 Madeline L’Engle If I had a time machine, I’d go back to when she was alive and again, just say thank you. She’s created characters that stand the test of time–strong female, SCIENCE LOVING female characters who make a mark in their world. Meg isn’t a damsel in distress, she’s a whirlwind of spitfire and sass.

clouds07 C.S. Lewis Again, I’d need a time machine, but I think it would be so worth it to sit down and have a cup of coffee and just talk to this man. His writing has guided me throughout the years, both his fiction and his essays/personal reflection books. I’m in awe of what he created and I’d love to just listen to him talk about the worlds and characters that have inspired so many.

smallpinkdivider

clouds10 Instinct by Sherrilyn Kenyon Due out March 31, 2015. Nick has finally accepted his fate, now he must learn to defy his destiny, and the dark, deadly forces that will stop at nothing to destroy everyone he loves so that they can again return to the world of man and own it.

clouds09 Winter by Marissa Meyer Due Out November 24, 2015 This book will feature Cinder and Snow White and will take place on the moon.

clouds08 Gangsta vol. 5 by Kohske Due Out February 17, 2015. The Hunters and the Destroyers continue to rampage through the city, toying with their prey and piling atrocity upon atrocity. With no time to mourn their fallen, the Paulklee Guild are forced to fend off their enemies’ increasingly deadly attacks. The surviving members mobilize to fight back, and despite the terrible losses, hope is kept alive in the form of old vows honored and new ones made.

clouds07 Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo Due out October 8, 2015. The project, described as a blend of Ocean’s 11 and Game of Thrones, is set in Kerch, a small island nation in the “Grishaverse” (meaning the same universe as her Shadow and Bone books) with tremendous economic power, the hub of all international trade and a country rich in art and culture … but also home to one of the most dangerous criminal underworlds. A crew of dangerous felonious misfits face impossible odds when they are pulled together to break into one of the most guarded places in the world.

Characters that I wish would have their own spotlight. (Top Ten Tuesday)

This week’s Top Ten is: Top Ten Characters You Wish Would Get Their OWN Book (minor or just maybe a semi main character you wish a book was from their POV)

smallpinkdots

clouds10 Numair Salmalin of the Immortals series by Tamora Pierce. Numair is one of my favorite characters of all time, and I really want to know more of his backstory and what’s going on in his head. He’s wonderfully complex and I just really want to see more about him.

clouds09 Isaac from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I want to know what happens next with him. Where does his story go? He was a great supporting character, providing some comedic humor, but at the same time having his own compelling story (what we saw of it.) So yeah. I want to see more of Isaac.

clouds08 Professor Randolph Lyall of the The Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger. I stopped reading this series after the third book, but if I heard that Lyall was going to receive his own story, I’d come running back just to read it. He’s a character that I really liked and wanted to know more of. I did skim where more was revealed about him, but it wasn’t enough. He could carry a book of his own.

clouds07 Gabriel of the Half Bad series by Sally Green. I really disliked Half Bad, and the only shining light in it for me was Gabriel. He’s an interesting character who has a few motives that aren’t quite revealed, and he’ well rounded and thought out, so unlike the main character. I want to know more about Gabriel.

clouds06 Thomas of the Anna by Kendare Blake. He’s the nerd that gets the girl. I want to know what he was like before Cas entered his life, and what happens more with his relationships now that Cas is sticking around a bit longer.

clouds05 Magnus Bane of the The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. Now I realize there are novellas out there, but I want a full length story about him. I wasn’t a fan of the novellas, and so I’d really love something that delved into his character, his history and what happens with him.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at The Broke and Bookish. Each week the bloggers at The Broke and The Bookish put out a topic, and discuss their top ten options for said topic. This week’s Top Ten is: Top Ten Books for your Fall TBR list.

clouds10 These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. I’m going to do it this time, I swear. I think every time the “TBR list” or “books I want to read” subject comes up, this book is somewhere on my list. I actually have it from the library, in my hot little hands. And I’m going to read it.

clouds09 Possess by Gretchen McNeil. I read 3:59 by this author and really enjoyed the world building and characters in it. So I decided to pick up one of her other books. I’ll probably read her entire library, because I like her as an author–and I tend to obsess like that.

clouds08 Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. This is another book that almost always ends up on my ‘tbr top ten Tuesdays’ and I’ve yet to read it. I do however, have it from the library and I plan to crack into it very soon.

clouds07 An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. See: compulsively reading an author’s body of work. I’m really hoping I like this one more than Paper Towns, but the preliminary glossing over of reviews on goodreads, I’m not too hopeful. They’ve already mentioned things about this book which struck a nerve with me while reading Paper Towns. I’ll give it a shot, with an open mind, but I’m not expecting much.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at The Broke and Bookish. Each week the bloggers at The Broke and The Bookish put out a topic, and discuss their top ten options for said topic. This week’s Top Ten Top Ten Books People Have Been Telling You That You MUST Read (whether because they think it’s a “you” book or it’s just been generally recommended so often)

pinkdivider

clouds10 Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tuchokle. Sometimes I feel as though this book itself is wanting me to read it. Every time I go to a book store, it’s right there in my face. Even if I’m no where near the YA/NA section in B&N. Which is seriously weird. I’ve had a few friends tell me to read it, and have offered to loan it to me, but I just haven’t had the connection to read it. I really think it’s the reviews that are holding me back. On goodreads and various blogs–there’s such a huge love/hate swing that it leaves me wondering if I’d really like it, or just be frustrated with it early on and not finish it.

clouds09 Throne of Glass (and series) by Sarah J. Maas. This is a book/series that I feel everyone has read. And everyone tells me to read, I just haven’t had the chance to get to it. I fully intend to read the first book, and probably the whole series by default, but it’s not one that’s seriously pressing on my list.

clouds08 Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. This isn’t on the list so much for “OMG READ THIS” But rather, “OMG COME BACK TO THIS”. I read the Anita books like they were illegal contraband in high school–we passed the tattered paperbacks around the female population of my school the way stocks are traded. I stopped reading after Narcissus in Chains book 10/22 holy crap. I stopped reading because of the severe shift in plot (lack thereof) and subject matter. I couldn’t handle Anita’s power of the week gained through sleeping with whichever male character that had working genitalia, so I set them aside. Recently, I’ve had a few friends tell me to try them again. I’m still strongly weighing my options.

clouds07 “WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! You’ve never read the Hobbit? How can you call yourself a nerd? You HAAAAAAVE to read it.” Welcome to #7 on my list The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I think it’s really fun to see people’s expressions when I tell them I hadn’t read the LotR series until after I had watched LotR: Fellowship of the Ring AND Two Towers. In fact the only reason I had read those is a friend had told me she wouldn’t see Return of the King with me until I had read the trilogy. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tolkien and the world he’s created. I just cannot get into the Hobbit. I’ve tried multiple times, and it’s still on my TBR list and so it’s ended up on this list.
