Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at The Broke and Bookish. Each week the bloggers at The Broke and The Bookish put out a topic, and discuss their top ten options for said topic. This week it’s all about the top ten things on your bookish bucket list.
This is possibly an impossible task, but I want to record all of the books I’ve read using Goodreads. I want to include books that I read growing up, and stuff that I read pre-site. I’ve started this process and I’m currently archiving the manga/manwha I’ve read. It’s daunting and I probably should have started doing this sooner, and only taking it one shelf at a time. I just think it would be really fun to see how much I’ve really read. I like numbers, and I like being organized, and Goodreads is a definite time-suck for me. I could spend hours on there cataloging books and searching for books. I’m going to devote a lot of time this summer to this process, especially once I’ve build up a log of scheduled blog posts. I really hope I’m not alone in my obsession with the Goodreads site. Do you catalog books that you’ve read in the past before you joined the site, or do you just update current reads?
I want to read all of the banned books. I have this thing that when someone tells me I can’t read/listen to something I have to do it. The Banned Book list is something that taunts me, and I really want to read everything on it. I’m against censorship on so many levels and to suspend the printed word is something inconceivable to me. I have the belief that knowledge is neither good nor bad, it’s what we do with that knowledge, and so to deny the chance for people to read something that opens their mind to new possibilities is ridiculous. I’ve read some of the books, but I’m thinking of turning it into a blog feature, maybe committing myself to reading at least one a month and blogging about it.
I want to ‘walk in a character’s shoes.’ There have been a few books that have spoken to me, and their setting as much of a character as the narrator and supporting cast, and I think it would be so much fun to take the book and live in their shoes. Go the places that are mentioned in the book, eat at the restaurants, find the dive bars, go shopping where they did. I want to immerse myself in their world and experience things as they did.
